Rinse grit out of the wheels and brake, store the pram dry and out of the sun, and give it a ten-minute check once a season.
Wheels and brake
Sand and grit are what wear wheels and brakes, and grit collects around the fold joints and the locking latch. After a beach or a gravel path, rinse the wheels with a hose or under a tap, brush the grit out of the brake bar, and let everything dry. If the frame has had salt water or sea spray on it, rinse it with fresh tap water as soon as you can, because salt corrodes the frame.
Storage
Store the pram dry and inside. UV fades and weakens fabric, and that is wear, not a defect, so it is outside the warranty. A hot car boot every day of summer is the worst place for it. Never fold or store the pram while it is damp or wet, and do not keep it somewhere damp. If it has been rained on, leave it open to dry before you fold it away.
Once a season: the ten-minute check
- Put the brake on and try to roll the pram.
- Open and close the fold and listen for a clean click.
- Tug each harness strap.
- Spin each wheel and look for wobble.
- Check the screws and rivets on the frame are tight.
- Check the bumper bar release and the seat recline.
If something is not right
Anything loose, stiff or squeaking is usually grit, and rarely a fault. If anything does not lock, stop using the pram and lodge a request.
Parts and servicing
Wheels, harnesses, bumper bar covers, basket fabric and locking latches are all available as spare parts. Repairs and modifications carried out by a third party void the warranty, so use genuine UPPAbaby parts.
Complimentary maintenance checks are available for up to ten years from purchase at Tune-Up Days. The team checks, cleans and adjusts the pram in about fifteen minutes. Bookings are required and places are limited.
For washing fabrics, see How do I clean my UPPAbaby pram?.
Good to know
No oil or lubricant Do not use oil or lubricant spray on the wheels or joints. It attracts grit and makes it worse. A squeak that survives a rinse is a job for a Tune-Up Day.
