My pram brake isn't holding or is sticking. What should I do?

A brake that sticks or slips is usually caused by sand or grit. Rinse it with fresh water, brush the grit out, let it dry fully, and never oil it. If the brake still does not hold the pram still, stop using the pram and lodge a request.

How the brake should work

On the Vista V3, Cruz V3 and Minu V3 the brake is the foot pedal at the rear wheel. Press it down to put the brake on and lift it to take it off. The pedal shows red when the brake is on and green when it is off. The manual for your model shows this at the start.

With the brake on, push the pram gently. It should stay put. Always put the brake on when you lift your child in or out, and whenever the pram is parked.

Safe checks you can do

  1. Look for sand, grit, small stones or salt around the brake and the rear wheels.
  2. Rinse the wheels and brake with a hose or under a tap.
  3. Brush the grit out of the brake bar.
  4. Let everything dry fully before you fold or store the pram.
  5. Put the brake on and try to roll the pram. Red means the brake is on, green means it is off. If it holds, you are done.

Ridge V2: foot brake and hand brake

The Ridge V2 has two brakes. The foot brake works the same way as on the other prams: red means it is on, green means it is off. It also has a hand disc brake.

If the hand brake feels less responsive or needs more force to stop, tighten the disc brake tension:

  1. Slightly rotate the disc brake knob anticlockwise to tighten it.
  2. Adjust the disc brake on both sides.
  3. Test the hand brake, and keep adjusting until it feels right.

Never oil the brake

Do not use oil, grease or lubricant spray on the brake, wheels or joints. It attracts grit and makes sticking worse.

After the beach or any salt water, rinse the frame with fresh tap water as soon as you can and dry it. Corrosion or rust from poor care or storage is not covered by the warranty.

If the brake still does not hold

Stop using the pram. A brake that does not lock is a safety issue, so please do not keep using it or try to repair it yourself. Repairs by anyone else void the warranty.

Brake kits are not sold to customers. Brakes are repaired by authorised repairers, at a free Tune-Up Day or by our head office.

Adjustment or warranty?

  • A brake that works but feels stiff or needs adjusting is a job for a free Tune-Up Day. Our team checks, cleans and adjusts the brakes, wheels, harness, fold and canopy in about fifteen minutes. Anyone with an UPPAbaby pram can come, wherever it was bought.
  • A brake that has failed, rather than one clogged with grit, may be a manufacturing fault. Prams have a three year warranty from purchase. Make a warranty claim with your proof of purchase showing the retailer and date, the serial number, daylight photos of the brake and one of the whole pram, a short video of the brake not holding, and when it started.

Good to know

After the beach Sand and salt wear brakes and wheels fastest. Rinse them with fresh water after a beach or gravel walk, and let them dry before you fold the pram.
