Remi Portacot: setting up, ages and what goes with it

Modified on Fri, 2 Oct at 7:52 AM
Grandparents kneel on the floor either side of a Remi Portacot as a smiling toddler peeks through the open mesh door

The Remi Portacot is suitable from birth in bassinet mode, to around 6 months, then as a full cot until your child is 3 years, 15 kg or 88.9 cm tall, or can climb out. It folds one handed into its own storage bag, and the air mesh mattress, organic cotton cover and storage bag come in the box.

Setting it up

UPPAbaby's set-up video below walks you through it. The cot must be fully set up before your baby goes in, with all four rails locked. If a rail is not locked, pull it up until it locks.

In cot mode, fix the mattress to the floor of the cot with the attachment provided. The manual explains that a loose mattress can trap a child. In bassinet mode, check the bassinet zip is done up all the way before you put your baby in.

A zip opens one full side, so you can settle a baby who is already asleep without leaning over a rail.

Ages, limits and weight

  • Bassinet mode: from birth to around 6 months.
  • Cot mode: to 3 years, 15 kg or 88.9 cm tall. Stop using it as soon as your child can climb out, even if they are under those limits.
  • Never leave the bassinet in place when your child is sleeping or playing in the cot.
  • Weight: about 10.6 kg without the bassinet level and 11.3 kg with it.

Safe sleep

These warnings come from the Remi product page and manual.

  • Place your baby on their back to sleep, on a firm, flat surface.
  • Use only the mattress that comes with the Remi. Do not add pillows, quilts, extra padding or a second mattress.
  • Keep toys and other objects out of your baby's sleep space, and never hang strings over the cot.
  • Keep the cot away from blinds, cords, straps and anything else that could wrap around a baby's neck.
  • When used for play, never leave your child unattended.
  • Do not use the cot if anything is loose, broken or missing, or if the mesh or fabric is torn.

Accessories made for the Remi

  • Remi Portacot Changing Station: turns the Remi into a changing station for children up to 13 kg. It has a large wipeable surface and rotates out of the way when not in use. Stay within arm's reach and never leave your child on it or let them sleep on it. It can be lifted up and laid over the side while still zipped on, but we recommend taking it off and keeping it out of your child's reach whenever a child is in the portacot.
  • Remi Portacot Canopy: UPF 50+ sun protection and keeps bugs out outdoors, and darkens the cot indoors. It folds down small for travel.
  • Remi Portacot Organic Cotton Mattress Cover: a spare for the cover in the box. Tab openings give a secure fit on the full-size mattress. It is not for bassinet mode.
  • Remi Portacot Travel Bag: a padded bag that fits the Remi, mattress, bassinet and sheet, with handles for side or back carrying. It includes the TravelSafe Program.

Flying with the Remi

Pack the Remi in the Remi Portacot Travel Bag and register the bag and the Remi before you fly. The TravelSafe Program then covers airline damage for four years from purchase. Registration has to be done before the flight, not after the damage. If the airline damages it, lodge a request within 14 days of travel and mark it TravelSafe. The second video below shows how to pack the Remi into the travel bag.

Cleaning

The organic cotton mattress cover comes off and is machine washable. Wipe the mesh and the frame down rather than soaking them. The cot and bassinet fabric is spot clean only: do not bleach, iron or dry clean it. Let everything dry fully, with the cot open, before you fold it away.

Warranty

The Remi Portacot and its canopy, mattress cover and travel bag have a two year warranty against manufacturing defects. The Remi Portacot Changing Station has three years. Warranty is for the original owner in the country of purchase, and you need proof of purchase showing the retailer and date. Normal wear, misuse, airline damage, and sun or detergent damage are not covered. To make a warranty claim, include the serial number (on the label on the underside of the Remi), daylight photos of the fault plus one of the whole cot, and when it started. Our Melbourne team replies within one business day.
