Soma Smart Bassinet: setting up, ages and accessories

Modified on Fri, 2 Oct at 7:52 AM
A mum leans into a Soma bassinet, holding the hands of a swaddled newborn who looks up at her

The Soma is UPPAbaby's smart bassinet for beside your bed. It suits babies from birth until they reach 11.34 kg or first push up on their hands and knees, whichever comes first. It has five motions at five speeds and four sleep sounds, and runs for eight hours at a stretch.

At a glance

  • Suitable from: birth.
  • Suitable to: 11.34 kg, or when your baby pushes up on hands and knees, whichever comes first.
  • Motions: five motions, five speeds and four sounds.
  • Runtime: eight hours.
  • MotionSync: set from the app, it matches the motion to the way you settle your own baby, then holds it for eight hours at a speed you choose.
  • Mattress: breathable mesh, with mesh sidewalls on every side so air moves through and you can see your baby from your bed.
  • Height: the legs adjust so the bassinet lines up with your mattress.
  • Controls: touch sensitive backlit controls on the base, and the same settings in the app over Bluetooth.
  • Power: mains, by the AC adapter supplied. No batteries.
  • Weight: 16.8 kg assembled.
  • In the box: the bassinet, mesh mattress with cover, and AC adapter.

Setting it up

Assembly is tool free. Set the legs to the height of your bed, so the bassinet lines up with your mattress rather than sitting above or below it.

Use only the AC adapter supplied. It is part of the product, not an accessory. Route the cable through the frame as shown, so it is not left loose near the bassinet.

UPPAbaby's Set Up & Go video below walks you through it, and the UI Overview video shows the controls on the base.

Safe sleep

These warnings are on the product page and printed on the Soma:

  • Stop using the Soma at 11.34 kg or the first time your baby pushes up on hands and knees, whichever happens first. The hands and knees limit usually comes before the weight limit.
  • Never add a mattress, pillow or padding of your own. Use the mattress and cover supplied. The Soma Waterproof Mattress Cover is made for the Soma and is safe to use while your baby sleeps. The Soma was tested with what is in the box.
  • A baby should be placed to sleep on a firm, flat surface.
  • Place your baby on their back when using the Soma.
  • Do not put objects or accessories in a baby's sleep environment.
  • Do not place it near a blind, cord, strap or anything similar that could become wrapped around a baby's neck.

Accessories

Two accessories are made for the Soma. Both are on the Soma accessories page.

  • Soma Waterproof Mattress Cover: a waterproof, breathable layer made specifically for the Soma mattress, to handle little leaks and make changes easier. It is safe to use while your baby sleeps.
  • Soma Storage Basket: attaches securely to the bassinet, for nappies, wipes, swaddles and spare sheets.

Cleaning

The mesh mattress and its quilted cover are both fully washable. Wash them as shown on their care labels. Unplug the Soma before you clean anything, and let everything dry completely before your baby goes back in.

Manual

A Soma manual is being added to the product manuals page. Until it is there, if you need one, lodge a request and we will send it. Our Melbourne team replies within one business day.

Warranty

The Soma has a three year warranty against manufacturing defects, and the mattress cover and storage basket have two years. Warranty is for the original owner in the country of purchase. To claim, make a warranty claim with your proof of purchase showing the retailer and date, the serial number (on the label on the underside of the Soma), daylight photos of the fault plus one of the whole bassinet, and a short video if it is a noise or movement problem.

Good to know

Hands and knees comes first The hands and knees limit usually arrives before the weight limit. Stop using the Soma the first time your baby pushes up on hands and knees, even if they are under 11.34 kg.

Still need help?

Lodge a request and our Melbourne team will reply within one business day. Include your receipt, a photo of the serial number label and photos of the problem.
